About OMC Chess Club

Our Mother of Consolation School Chess Club is a school-based program that helps students grow as players, thinkers, and classmates through the game of chess.

Rooted in the Catholic mission of Our Mother of Consolation Parish School, the club encourages students to develop patience, humility, perseverance, good sportsmanship, and grace. Inspired by the spiritual heritage of the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales and the Sisters of St. Joseph, we want students to compete thoughtfully, learn from mistakes, and treat others with generosity, kindness, and care.

We understand grace as a way of meeting others with humility and kindness, mindful of our own shortcomings and grateful for the patience others show us. In chess club, that means learning to win modestly, lose graciously, and encourage one another along the way.

What students do in club

Who the club is for

OMC Chess Club welcomes a range of players, from students who are just learning the game to students who are ready for more advanced practice. The goal is to help each child grow at an appropriate level in a supportive school community.

Our approach

We believe chess should be thoughtful, challenging, and fun. Students are encouraged to try their best, treat opponents with respect, and see every game as a chance to learn.

With Gratitude to ASAP Philly

We are deeply grateful for the generous support of ASAP Philly. Their gift of chess equipment, along with their advice, guidance, and encouragement, helped make OMC Chess Club possible.

We are thankful for their support of young chess players across Philadelphia and for the help they gave us as we began building chess at Our Mother of Consolation.
